edr kernel has "COMPAQCompatible" inside

Is there a reason for this text? I uploaded a screenshot on Bernds upload site. Fritz

I've seen it too a couple of months ago, just assumed it's some magic string necessary for obscure compatibility (maybe with Windows?). IIRC some mouse drivers also have a similarly weird string. The string is defined here, and the code makes sure it appears at a specific offset: https://github.com/SvarDOS/edrdos/blob/529e535fc260b8e2ffb1d1f5f12efb735ce5d24c/drbio/init.asm#L215 Mateusz

For completeness - this is what I was referring to. Inside the binary of the Logitech mouse driver v6.50 appears such odd string: "This is a LOGITECH mouse driver, but some software expects here the following string:*** This is Copyright 1983 Microsoft ***" Whether or not the "COMPAQcompatible" string in the EDR kernel has a similar reason is for someone else to confirm or deny. :-) Mateusz
Thx for this feedback.

I searched my old DOS archive for this COMPAQ string, but got one result only. In DOSMAX.EXE "COMPAQCompatible" follows the string "Unable to calculate DR-DOS kernel control constants".
